Death Grips are a hip hop group from Sacramento, California. They play an aggressive and dark style of experimental hip hop with a harsh vocal range using irregular meter and a frequently overdriven recording quality.
The core group consists of Zach Hill, notably of Hella, as well as MC Ride on vocals and Flatlander[1], an alias of Andy Morin, who has produced and engineered a number of releases with Zach in the past. Also collaborating with vocals on a couple of tracks is an unknown female vocalist attributed to "Mexican Girl".
The group initially formed on December 21, 2010.[2]. However it wasn't until March 8, 2011 that the group would reveal itself to a wider audience with the video and single Full Moon (Death Classic), which was initially spread by Hill on his Twitter and Facebook accounts. Full Moon, along with other recorded tracks were available to download on the website. A large following quickly grew as the group released more content in the form of videos and new songs over a period of weeks. On April 25, 2011, Death Grips released a mixtape entitled Exmilitary. NBCNewYork.com called it "an intense, dark listen."[3]
